Fixing air leaks in your home

By Glenn Haege. (Used by permission)

Dear Glenn: We live in a two-story colonial house built in 1986. The library and family room are on a slab. I have observed air leaks between the base board and the carpet during the winter.

How do I stop the air from coming through the outside walls?

The heating bills are astronomical and we are not comfortable.

Chandra, Rochester HIlls

Dear Chandra: Call Infrared Services of Michigan, (810) 329-9033. Bob Carey, the owner, can do an infrared inspection of your complete home plus a blower door test. By the time he is done, you will know exactly where the leaks are coming from and how to go about fixing them.
